Fifteen-year-old Ukrainian WFM Anastasiia Hnatyshyn, seeded just 76th, won the European Women's Chess Championship 2026, an 11-round Swiss held in Batumi, Georgia, from May 25 to June 5 with 165 players from 32 federations.
Hnatyshyn scored 9/11 with a 2580 performance rating, gaining 214 rating points. She recovered from a round-seven loss to Georgia's Meri Arabidze, beat 2024 European champion Ulviyya Fataliyeva and then Eline Roebers in round 10, and entered the final round as sole leader.
The victory earned her the WGM title outright, an IM norm, qualification for the next FIDE Women's World Cup, and top spot among U20 girls in the live ratings.
