FIDE Congress in Menorca Explores AI's Role in Chess Education

FIDE's Chess & AI in Education Congress in Menorca (April 24-26) examined how artificial intelligence is reshaping chess teaching and learning.

International experts in education, technology and chess gathered in Menorca, Spain, from April 24-26 for the "Chess & AI in Education" Congress, organized under the framework of FIDE.

Dr. Mario Antonio Ramirez Barajas opened with a keynote on how AI can enhance learning, coach training and educational program development, while FIDE Education Commission secretary Rita Atkins cautioned against overusing the technology, arguing that teachers should remain the main instrument in the classroom.

Presentations ranged from Chess2Mind, a platform making chess accessible to people with diverse needs, to a striking neuroscience case in which a patient played chess verbally during awake brain surgery so doctors could monitor memory, concentration and decision-making in real time.
