Carlsen Sheds 18 Points but Stays World's Only 2800+ Player

Magnus Carlsen dropped 18 rating points on the July 2026 FIDE rating list but remains the world's only player rated above 2800, still more than 30 points ahead of Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana.

Despite the dip, the Norwegian's lead at the top of world chess remains comfortable, with no other player currently threatening the 2800 barrier.

The women's list saw a spectacular riser: 15-year-old Ukrainian Anastasiia Hnatyshyn enjoyed a 214-point jump, soaring from outside the women's top 100 to world No. 18 after her surprise victory at the European Women's Chess Championship in June.
